Matt is a long-term volunteer with Element, this is his story so far...

Who are you?
My name is Matthew. I’m 25 years old and I’m studying Accounting at Rotherham College.

Why did you want to start volunteering?
Throughout my time at college, I was looking for ways to develop and thought that Element would be a step in the right direction. The reasons I wanted to volunteer were to build my confidence and self-esteem, gain valuable experience towards future full-time employment by boosting the skills and qualities on my CV to enable me to stand out from the rest.

What activities are you doing at Element?
When I first started volunteering at Element I had been given the role of organising and monitoring inventory within the storeroom. After a few months of volunteering with Element I had been given the opportunity to take on additional roles such as maintaining records on our Customer Relationship Management System, balancing cash counts, managing program accounts and assisting with research for the NCS (National Citizen Service).

What activities are you doing at Element?
One of the best things about working with Element is the close working relationships that can be formed between staff members due to the small office environment. I find it easier to communicate and gain assistance when needed and my questions and queries are answered a lot quicker, leading to a more expedient working environment.

Why should people volunteer?
Volunteering can be beneficial for everyone and Element is a great place to start. The small working environment consists of friendly, easy-going people which really helps you to feel settled in. Element staff understand that volunteers are looking for self-development and will cater for this in any way possible!
