Invata is an unconventional language provision programme, primarily teaching English as a second language.

Invata is currently aimed at those aged 16-24 who are seeking asylum, new arrivals, or those who have been rejected access to an ESOL classroom education. Our programme uses a combination of traditional teaching in a classroom setting and very non-traditional learning through real-life experiences within a safe and private environment. Students will have a chance to practice the content they learn in realistic role-playing scenarios with set-ups including a GP surgery, a restaurant, kitchen etc. Moreover, all classes will be led by our amazing volunteers.

How can I get involved?

  • Donations from home; anything new or old, something you consider scrappy could make us very happy! Stationary; Games; notebooks/paper; crafts; Reading books; Mp3 players; any specific learning aids. You may have items we could use as props!
  • Sponsor a student scheme; We thought a great way to encourage community cohesion is by getting locals and businessto sponsor a participant for their 3 month course. £80 a month, would cover the participants transport costs, food and venue running costs. Hopefully, with the donations and grants we are seeking it could be even less!
  • Volunteer? Can you be a friend to someone? Are you ready to have awkward conversations, full of sign language and laughter? We are looking for wonderful souls who are willing to give up at least 2 hours a week (for 10 weeks) - helping to provide classes, 1:5 or 1:1. As long as you can speak English fluently you are perfect for us! We will prepare you with the rest.
